|

It is Cycle 2 Week 22, and I am so excited to share what we’ve been up to this week — not just our regular memory work and read-alouds, but a brand new project that I have been working on behind the scenes that I can’t wait to tell you about!

Cycle 2 Week 21 Recap

Last week in Cycle 2 Week 21, I shared all about how we are working toward Geography Subject Master this year! My seven-year-old has been so excited about this goal, and it has been one of the sweetest parts of our homeschool year. I talked about what Subject Master and Memory Master actually are in Classical Conversations, why geography was the perfect starting point for my daughter, and how I use tools like our large felt Europe map, European Countries Workbook, Cycle 2 Geography Passport, and placemats at mealtimes to make review feel simple and hands-on.

I also shared why I believe memorization is such a valuable gift to give our children in these early years — and why it is so important to know your child and make sure this kind of challenge brings them joy rather than stress. If you missed that post, I would really encourage you to read it! Read more about how we are preparing for Geography Subject Master during Cycle 2 Week 21 here!

Personalized Student Timeline Cards!

I am so excited to finally share this with you. If your family uses timeline cards as part of your learning, you know how much kids love flipping through them and connecting events and people across history. My girls love looking at the pictures on each card and talking about the people and events they are learning about. It is such a hands on, visual way for kids to engage with the timeline.

personalized timeline cards

Well, one day I thought, wouldn’t it be so special if your child had their very own timeline card? One that is designed in the same style as the cards they already know and love, but that highlights them and their place in history? That is exactly what I have started creating, and I am absolutely loving how they are turning out.

Each card is an 8″x5″ digital file that features your child’s photo and personalized details, making it a truly one of a kind keepsake. Each customized card includes your student’s name, a picture with a subtitle, their year and state of birth, current school year and age, and four to six fun facts about them. When I say these are cute, I really mean it. They look just like the timeline cards your kids are already familiar with, but with their own face and their own story right there on the card.

I have been having so much fun designing these. Every card feels special because every child is special, and getting to highlight each one in this way has been such a joy. I love reading through the fun facts that parents send me and figuring out how to make each card feel personal and unique.

Why I Am Starting Now

You might be wondering why I am talking about end of year gifts when we still have weeks left of our school year. The answer is simple. These cards take time to do well, and I want every single one to be perfect.

When I make these for the kids I tutor, I need to gather photos and details from each family first. That means reaching out, waiting for responses, and then carefully designing each card so it feels just right. I do not want to rush through that process. I want every parent to feel like their child’s card was made with care and attention, because it is.

If you are a tutor and you want to give these to the kids in your class, now is the perfect time to start collecting information from your families. If you are a parent who wants to order one for your own child, getting your order in early means I have plenty of time to make it beautiful. And if you are part of a homeschool community and want to do something special for all the kids, starting now means no one is scrambling at the last minute.

The Perfect End of Year Gift

I truly believe these personalized timeline cards are one of the most meaningful gifts you can give a child at the end of the school year. Think about it. Your kids have spent the whole year learning about incredible people and events throughout history. They have memorized facts, sung songs, colored cards, and placed figures on their timelines. Now imagine handing them a card that looks just like all the others they have been studying, but this time it is them on the card. Their name, their picture, their story.

What a powerful and encouraging message that sends. It tells them, “You are part of this story too.” You matter. Your life is worth celebrating. That is the kind of thing a child remembers.

These cards work beautifully in so many ways. These cards make such a meaningful end-of-year gift for the kids in your tutor class. Frame it, tuck it into a homeschool portfolio or memory book, add it to your family’s timeline card collection for a personalized touch — there are so many ways to make it special and keep it for years to come! However you choose to use it, it becomes a keepsake that your child will treasure.

I have already started making cards for my own girls and for the children I tutor, and I cannot wait to see their faces when they receive them. There is something so special about a child seeing themselves celebrated in this way, and I know it is going to be a highlight of our end of year celebration.

A Gift for Every Kid in Your Community

If you are a tutor, I want you to really think about this. Imagine your last day of community for the year. You have spent months investing in these kids, watching them grow, cheering them on as they memorize and learn. Now picture handing each one of them their very own timeline card. Their eyes lighting up as they see their photo, their name, their fun facts all designed in the style they have come to know and love throughout the year.

It does not have to be expensive either. I have made it as affordable as I can because I want as many kids as possible to have one. Each card is $9.99, but I offer special pricing if you are ordering for multiple children, which is perfect for families, co ops, or classes.

How to Order

When you purchase a personalized timeline card, you will need to message me with the following details: your child’s name, a photo subtitle, their year of birth, their birth state or the state you are living in, four to six fun facts about your child worded exactly how you would like them to appear on the card, their current age or the age they will be when the card is presented, and the photo you want added to the card.

For multiple children, simply send a separate message with each child’s information. I will take care of the rest and make sure each card is designed beautifully and delivered to you as a digital file that you can print and laminate at home.

Our Week 22 Rhythm

While the timeline cards have been the big exciting thing on my heart this week, we have of course been keeping up with our regular homeschool rhythm too!

Morning Time and Devotions

With Easter right around the corner, we have been reading from the Bible about the Easter story during our morning devotional time. It has been so special to walk through this season together and talk about what it all means. My girls have also been enjoying working through their Easter activity book, which has given them a fun, hands on way to engage with the story even more. You can read more about our Easter traditions and grab this free activity book here!

Math and Language Arts

We are continuing with The Good and the Beautiful for both math and language arts, and both girls are doing so well. My oldest is working through Level 2 math and Level 1 Language Arts and Literature, and my four year old is happily doing her Kindergarten Prep curriculum. These daily lessons are the backbone of our routine, and we always do them first thing after devotional time while everyone is still fresh.

Weekly Memory Work

We worked through all of our Cycle 2 Week 22 memory work this week! In geography, we learned about Oceania, focusing on Australia, the Great Barrier Reef, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, and Indonesia. I am continuing to take some time each week to review review geography with my oldest using her Cycle 2 Geography Passport. She is working toward Geography Subject Master this year, and taking ten minutes to flip through the passport and review past weeks was very doable. It is such a quick and effective tool for keeping all the material fresh!

In history, we learned about the fall of communism and how in 1989 the communist dictators began to fall in Eastern Europe when Soviet General Secretary Gorbachev refused to send them military aid.

In science, we learned about some ways light is observed. We used our Cycle 2 Memory Work Activity Books, placemats, and songs throughout the week to review and practice.

We also had some wonderful read alouds! One of our favorites was Inky’s Amazing Escape by Sy Montgomery, a fun true story about an octopus who escaped his aquarium in New Zealand. It tied in perfectly with our Oceania geography. We are also continuing to enjoy books about the orchestra and instruments, which has been a lovely thread running through our weeks.

Enjoying the Warmer Weather

One of the best parts of this time of year is that we are finally getting to spend a lot more time outside! The weather has been getting warmer, and we have been soaking up every bit of it. The girls love being outdoors, and honestly so do I. There is something about fresh air and sunshine that makes everything feel lighter and more joyful. We have been taking our read alouds outside, playing in the yard after lessons, and just enjoying the beauty of spring starting to show up around us. These are the kinds of days I dreamed about when I first started homeschooling, and I am so grateful we get to live them.
