Last week we wrapped up Cycle 2 Week 6. This week, instead of pressing ahead, we paused for a review week. Every six weeks, I love to take a break from new lessons to focus on review through games, puzzles, and favorite books. It’s refreshing, fun, and helps my kids (and me!) see how much they’ve already learned.

Morning Devotional Time

We always begin our mornings together around the breakfast table. I love that homeschooling allows us to linger instead of rushing out the door. I have learned some morning habits that help us all get down to breakfast at the same time. This helps me make the most of our morning time together. Read more about these habits here.

This week during our devotional time, we reread some of the Bible stories from the last six weeks, including the story of David and the temple.

We also reviewed one of the Family Ways and the corresponding Bible verse each day. It was encouraging to see how much my kids still remembered. These little daily moments remind me that my top priority in our homeschool is anchoring our hearts in God’s Word.

Weekly Memory Work Songs

During the week, we listened to many of our Cycle 2 memory work songs while cleaning up breakfast or driving in the car. Singing along helped us keep facts fresh while making review feel lighthearted.

Here is my playlist of Cycle 2 songs for English, Science, and Geography from Week 6, and you can find the other weeks on my youtube channel too!

Fun Review Games for Cycle 2

Each day I pulled out one review game. This kept the pace simple, but it added variety and excitement to our week. Here’s what we played:

Cycle 2 Historyopoly

One of the highlights of our review week was playing Cycle 2 Historyopoly, a brand new game I created this year.

It is modeled after Monopoly but uses all of the Cycle 2 history sentences. The kids loved rolling dice, moving around the board, and reviewing history facts as they played. It turned review into something exciting and fresh, and we will definitely be pulling it out again many more times this year. You can grab this NEW game below!

Memory Work Kingdom (Fall Edition)

We also pulled out our Memory Work Kingdom game, a fall themed Candy Land style game. It covers all of the memory work, and my kids always enjoy it. The colorful board and simple play make it easy for them to stay engaged while reviewing every subject.

This game is always a favorite because it makes review feel more like playtime than schoolwork. You can grab this game below!

Geography Passport & Placemats

We used our Cycle 2 Geography Passport a lot as we reviewed the geography we have learned so far. I also love using the geography placemats from Classical Conversations, especially the blank placemat option. It lets me quiz my daughter by having her fill in the map herself because she is preparing for subject mastery at the end of the year.

We also worked on our Europe puzzle together, which was another hands-on way to review all the locations we have learned! I love these Geo Puzzles because the pieces are actually shaped like each country!

Pronoun Memory Game

We also pulled out the Pronoun Memory Cards I made for Cycle 2, and they were such a fun addition to our review week. These cards cover all 75 pronouns from Weeks 4 through 13, and each one includes a sentence, a colorful image, and the pronoun type.

We used them in a few different ways such as sorting by pronoun type, playing a classic memory match, and even trying a fill in the blank version for extra challenge. My kids love this game because it feels playful but gives them tons of practice. It has quickly become one of our favorite grammar review tools! (By the way, this is the paper cutter I use all the time and it has worked great for me!) You can grab this game from my shop below.

Latin Bingo

We also had fun with our Latin Bingo game. This set includes seven different Bingo cards with all of the Latin noun endings, and each space has a little picture to help say the ending correctly.

We like to use dot markers to mark the spaces as we play, which always makes it extra fun for the kids. As we go along, we practice saying the noun endings out loud together. It’s such a playful way to get in lots of repetition, and the kids never seem to get tired of it. You can get this Latin Bingo game for FREE from my resource library!

Fall-Themed Picture Books

This week we also enjoyed some cozy fall picture books together. Two of our favorites were:

Both books were perfect for the season and added a sweet autumn touch to our week.

Why Review Weeks Matter

Taking one week “off” every six weeks has become a treasured rhythm for us. It prevents burnout, gives us a change of pace, and most importantly, helps cement the memory work in long-term memory.

I love that these weeks are filled with laughter, games, and togetherness, all while reinforcing what we’ve learned. It’s such a joy to see how much progress we’ve made in just six weeks of Cycle 2, and review week gives us a chance to celebrate that.
